A battery monitor is the cheapest insurance you can buy for a LiFePO4 bank. Without one, your "remaining charge" guess is basically a vibe — and over-discharging or cooking a cell is how people wreck expensive batteries. A shunt-based monitor tells you true state-of-charge (SoC) so you actually know what you have left.
Why you need one
Your inverter's bare "voltage meter" lies — voltage swings with load and temperature. A monitor counts amps in and out through a shunt on the negative cable, then calculates real SoC. That's the number you plan your day around: "I've used 40Ah, I have 60 left, the fridge will be fine."
